Stay Empowered

HOPE Academy

Liberia is an East African nation that is still recovering from 14 years of civil war. While the war-torn impoverished nation may be viewed as a hopeless cause to many, there are still the makings of greatness within the nation’s borders. Liberia is full of energetic, intelligent, and promising people who have remained or returned to the land, established by former United States freed slaves, to re-build their country. Education is a key to empowering a people and the Jamal Harrison Bryant H.O.P.E. (Helping Our People Excel) Academy is an educational primary grade institution, founded in direct response to the call to enhance the future of Liberia.  Although most Liberian children drop out of school by age 8, the H.O.P.E. Academy is preparing the next generation of Liberian leadership. With a dynamic group of children, Empowerment Temple Liberia has oversight of school which provides food, a challenging education and a safe learning environment for the children.

Empowerment Temple Liberia is an empowering agent for change in Liberia; Change begins with the minds of the children.

To confer power upon fresh minds through education, enrichment activities, and a safe environment such that H.O.P.E. students excel, graduate and be part of the solution for Liberia’s national restoration.

Today, Empowerment Temple Liberia presents to the Republic of Liberia and the world the Jamal Harrison Bryant H.O.P.E Academy, a lasting legacy to Dr. Bryant and Empowerment Temple Liberia’s commitment to provide academic and artistic training, develop Christian character, intelligent minds and a wholesome spirit in preparation for higher levels of education.

The Jamal Harrison Bryant H.O.P.E. Academy, Empowerment Temple Charter School, and Power Movement Foundation, are all particularly endearing to Dr. Bryant because he knows about the personal struggle to attain a decent education. While spending a year in Liberia, West Africa in the late 1980’s after he dropped out of high school in the United States, Dr. Bryant had an epiphany. In his own words, Dr. Bryant testifies that attending school in Liberia “saved his life” because he realized that in Liberia, the privilege of education is a cherished opportunity that few enjoy. With a new mind, young Jamal went back to the United States in 1990, studied for his high school equivalency test and completed high school. Today, Jamal-Harrison Bryant holds a Doctorate degree in Theology from Oxford University in England and is the pastor and founder of the Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Beginning with 43 members, God has brought 10,000 members, numerous ministries, a multi-million dollar edifice, and a global media outreach.
